Referent
Roberto Nibali, terreActive AG
Roberto Nibali, better known as ratz, works as a developer for terreActive AG. He's mainly doing Linux and OpenBSD kernel development in the fields of operating system security and networking. In his spare time he contributes to multiple OS projects, such as www.linux-vs.org, lsm.immunix.org, www.nsa.gov/selinux, www.snort.org and www.openbsd.org.
Einleitung
In times of explosive growth of the Internet the pressure for higher data delivery and high availability rises exponentially. A company representing their products and services over this fast evolving media eventually needs to cope with a rise of web request to their site. There are three major design considerations an IT manager needs to understand to provide a fast and reliable architecture for a business.
- Reliability through high available components and load balancing
- Linear speed improvement without major additional costs
- Security based on the Linux operating system.
Programm
This workshop is aimed to give you a step-by-step introduction to using an alternative method for professional load balancing using an open source project.
First you'll understand the technology and advantages of this approach compared to commercial load balancing products. We then discuss different architectural approaches and will then finally move over to the practical part where one can see that setting up a reliable load balancer that provides at least the functionality a commercial one would have can be done in the same amount of time with at least half of the costs. People that already might have experience in this field are invited to bring up interesting questions and ideas.
Kursziel
Depending on the knowledge base of the attendees we might step further into the core architecture of the LVS project. The workshop aims to give a thorough understanding about load balancing technologies so you will be able to take the right decisions.
Voraussetzungen
The presentation will be held in German or English depending on the people attending the course. To understand and follow the workshop and practical part a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, routing and common network protocols is needed. Furthermore you should obviously have worked with Unix. Programming skills are not required but might help to better understand some topics discussed.
