Edge Computing is currently considered to be the next evolutionary direction of Cloud Computing. In this talk we'll discuss motivation, drivers, technical propositions and potential obstacles, not only from a technical perspective but also from a business and regulatory view point.

The referent Dr. Thomas Michael Bohnert is a Professor at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. His interests are enabling ICT systems, ranging over cloud computing, cloud-native applications, as well as cloud-robotics. At ZHAW he was the founder of the Research Area Service Engineering and is head of the InIT Cloud Computing Laboratory (ICCLab). Prior to ZHAW he was with SAP Research (Technical Director) and SIEMENS Corporate Technology (Senior Researcher). His works have been published in several books, journals, and conferences. He serves as regional correspondent (Europe) for the IEEE Communication Magazine's news section (GCN).
